How to Use This: Run this roleplay with 3–4 people, or try it solo by voicing each role. Add curveballs to test adaptability. Reflect afterward to evaluate what strategies worked best.

Roleplay Scenario

Scenario Overview

Sample Roleplay in Action

Facilitator:
“Thanks for being here. We need to talk about the new proposal on the table. Let’s make sure everyone gets to share their thoughts. [Supportive Stakeholder], could you start us off with the main benefits?”

Supportive Stakeholder:
“Sure. The proposal could really improve our efficiency in [Area], leading to [Positive Outcome]. I know there are concerns, but I think with careful planning, we can address them.”

Skeptical Stakeholder:
“Thanks for explaining. My big concern is [Risk]. It’s important to understand how this could affect us and what plans we have to deal with it.”

Facilitator:
“Good point. Let’s dig into that risk. [Supportive Stakeholder], how do you propose we handle these concerns?”

Supportive Stakeholder:
“I suggest we put [Safeguard] in place to reduce the risk. We can also keep a close watch and adapt as necessary.”

Neutral Observer:
“I think we should look at how this fits into our strategic goals. Can someone expand on that?”

Facilitator:
“Great question. Let’s talk about how this proposal lines up with our bigger picture goals. Any thoughts on this?”

Supportive Stakeholder:
“I think it aligns with our goal to [Strategic Goal]. If we’re cautious, this could help us get there.”

Facilitator:
“To wrap up, we've talked about the benefits, concerns, and strategic fit. Any last thoughts before we conclude?”

Skeptical Stakeholder:
“I appreciate the discussion. I still have some reservations, but I’m open to looking at more data.”

Facilitator:
“Thanks, everyone, for your input. Let’s gather more data and continue this discussion to reach a consensus.”

Post-Scenario Tools

Curveball Mode (Optional)

Introduce one of these challenges mid-discussion to test adaptability:

  • A new stakeholder with a strong opinion joins late
  • Tensions rise between stakeholders during the debate
  • An unexpected data point challenges the proposal’s premise

Reflection Checklist

As the Facilitator:

  • Did you maintain neutrality and ensure balanced participation?
  • Did you guide the conversation toward a constructive outcome?
  • Did you manage any tensions effectively?

As a Participant:

  • Did you present your perspective clearly and respectfully?
  • Did you listen actively and consider opposing views?
  • Did you contribute to a productive dialogue?

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Allowing one voice to dominate the discussion
  • Failing to address rising tensions or conflicts
  • Not summarizing or clarifying key points during the meeting

Pro Tip

Facilitation is about guiding the flow of conversation while remaining neutral. Encourage diverse perspectives and focus on building consensus around shared goals.
