You're here to facilitate the chat.
Your goal: Keep things positive and productive, making sure everyone feels heard. Use simple strategies like active listening and summarizing.

Role B – Teammate One
You felt your ideas were dismissed during a meeting.
Your goal: Share your feelings and find a way to move forward positively.

Role C – Teammate Two
You made a comment that upset your colleague, though it wasn’t your intention.
Your goal: Understand their side and work things out.

Sample Roleplay in Action

Mediator:
“Thanks for being here. I know there was some tension after the last meeting, and we’re here to talk it out. [Teammate One], why don’t you start by sharing what’s on your mind?”

Teammate One:
“During the meeting, when you said ‘let’s not overcomplicate things,’ it felt like you were dismissing my whole approach, which was frustrating.”

Teammate Two:
“I’m sorry you felt that way. I just wanted to simplify the discussion, not dismiss your idea. I really do appreciate your input.”

Mediator:
“Sounds like there was some miscommunication. [Teammate Two], could you explain what you meant?”

Teammate Two:
“I was just trying to find a quicker path to the solution, but I see now how it came across. I didn’t mean to undermine your work.”

Mediator:
“Thanks for clearing that up. How can we prevent this in the future? Maybe a quick check-in during discussions to clarify what we mean?”

Teammate One:
“That sounds good. I’d also appreciate it if feedback acknowledges the effort put into ideas.”

Teammate Two:
“Absolutely. I’ll be more careful with my wording and make sure to highlight the positives too.”

Mediator:
“Great, it sounds like we have a plan. Let’s touch base in a week to see how it’s going. Anything else either of you want to discuss?”

Teammate One:
“No, I’m good. Thanks for helping us sort this out.”

Teammate Two:
“Same here. Thanks for facilitating.”
